Wang Yemin is a fingerstyle guitarist and the first Chinese artist to win the Morris Fingerpicking Day competition in Japan, where he claimed both the Grand Prize and the Best Original Composition Award in 2023. His music captivates audiences with its vibrant worldview, eclectic musical style, hauntingly beautiful melodies, and masterful, inventive performances. Having performed across China, Japan, and South Korea, he serves as a cultural bridge, bringing Chinese fingerstyle guitar music to a wider audience.

Biography:

2014: Graduated from the Department of International Law at East China University of Political Science and Law; traveled to Japan for further studies that same year.

2016: Earned a Master’s degree in Business Administration from Doshisha University in Kyoto, Japan. Won the West Japan regional qualifier and placed third in the national finals of the Morris Fingerpicking Day competition.

2017: Organized and promoted the China tours of renowned guitarists Rinten Okazaki, Shun Komatsubara, and Takeshi Sakasegawa.

2018: Released his debut original solo guitar album, The Other Shore: Three Lives (Bi’an · Sansheng). Invited to perform at the Tokyo Handmade Guitar Exhibition and the Music China (Shanghai) exhibition; held performances across Japan.

2019: Embarked on his first solo tour across China; performed alongside world-class guitarists Gareth Pearson and Shohei Toyota at the “Acoustic Night” event during the Music China exhibition in Shanghai.

2023: Won the Grand Prize and Best Composition Award at the Morris Fingerpicking Day competition in Japan; invited to perform at Sound Messe Osaka. Served as a guest performer for Rinten Okazaki in May and July; held the “Road to the Champion” solo concert in Shanghai in October; formed the trio “F3 (3 Fingerpickers)” with past competition winners Akihiro Tanaka and Shohei Toyota for a tour across Japan; invited to perform at the Kurashiki Jazz Street festival in November.

2024: Released the album Fiesta and launched the “Road to the Champion” 2024 national tour. In 2025, the artist toured across Japan. In April, they were invited to perform a dedicatory recital at Yasaka Shrine in Kyoto. That same month, they traveled to South Korea to perform in the “Fingerstyle Korea Special Concert” alongside Kim Young-so (2019 Japan Fingerstyle Competition champion) and Cheon Sang-hyeok (2024 champion). In July, they embarked on the “Fiesta” solo tour in China. In September, they were invited to perform at the concert commemorating the 30th anniversary of Masaaki Kishibe’s debut.
