Understanding chord tones and guitar voicings

2 and 9, 4 and 11, and 6 and 13 share pitch classes in equal temperament, but differ in interval spelling and harmonic context. Guitar voicings may omit the fifth or some extensions. A slash chord need not be an inversion: D is outside the C major triad in C/D.

Tunings are listed from the lowest string to the highest. D standard lowers all six strings by a whole step; Drop D lowers only the sixth string. Check the tension limits of your instrument and strings before raising pitches.
